The Telugu film industry is going through a very shocking transition right now. The situation is such that Filmmaking budgets have fallen down alarmingly. TV channels have stopped buying the satellite rights for films. Even the audience collection is ruled out because they are coming only for big star movies to theatres. However, moviemaking will not stop so the transition is happening.
A most cost effective method of filmmaking will happen. A film can be made with Rs 40 lakhs- Rs 50 lakhs budget as the maximum but that requires great experience and skills. Since not all can do that a minimum of Rs 1 cr is required. If film is good then it will be on plus side and get profits. If not then around Rs 50 lakhs is gone.
Given this situation, remuneration for technicians is also tough. Once, cinema industry was considered to be a money making stream but not anymore. As to why TV channels are not buying films is because they say TRPs are not coming. The devotional and reality shows audience is there but sitting in front of TV for full movie is not happening now except for big star movies.
On the other hand, the majority movies are catering to 18-20 age group audience so the family audience stays away. Even the youngsters are not sitting as they are busy with internet and mobile phone. So, with less salaries and less payments work should take place and the glory is getting reduced. Today, Telugu cinema can be classified as star movie and non-star movie and only the first category is getting due preference.
